The Conservatory library of Campobasso:
a centre for music research in the region.
The Conservatory library of Campobasso is the only music library in the
whole of Molise, the most recent and least known region in Italy.
The school was founded in 1974 so the library has only had a brief
history and until the '90s, except for a few donations, some of which
are interesting, the principal aim of the library was the school
service.
However, about four years ago, a new strategy, with essentially two
purposes was adopted: the first being a considerable increase of the
bibliographical holdings in order to make the library one of the most
updated music libraries in the Southern central region of Italy; the
second being the creation of a regional point of reference for all the
research into the local musical history.
Computer technology turned out useful and the library has been the first
library in Italy to catalogue its own current printed music using the
specific software SBL.
Since 1992 the library has undertaken a survey in order to produce a
catalogue of all musical sources kept in public, private and
ecclesiastical libraries and archives in Molise. The first stage (a
systematic enquiry comprising a general questionnaire) is already
finished. The final aims are: a regional data-base catalogue, compiled
using the software SBL and accessible also through the Italian library
computer network SBN and through the Internet; the communication of the
findings to national and international institutions; a creation of a
CD-ROM with all the music written by Molisan composers.
La Bibliothèque du Conservatoire de Campobasso:
un centre pour la recherche musicale dans la région
La Bibliothèque du Conservatoire de Campobasso est la seule bibliothèque
musicale dans la Région Molise, la plus récente et moins connue des
régions italiennes.
L'école a été fondée en 1974, ainsi la bibliothèque a seulement une
brève histoire, et jusqu'aux années '90, sauf peux de donations,
certaines desquelles intéressantes, le but principal de la bibliothèque a
été le service pour l'école.
Toutefois, il y a quatre ans environ, on adopta une nouvelle stratégie,
avec deux intentions: la première d'obtenir un considerable
accroissement du possèdé de la bibliothèque pour en faire une des mieux
mises à jour dans la partie centrale de l'Italie méridionale; la
deuxième étant la création d'un point de référence régional pour toute
la recherche sur l'histoire musicale locale.
La technologie automatisée a été utile et la bibliothèque a été la
première en Italie à cataloguer sa musique imprimée avec le logiciel
spécifique SBL.
Dés 1992 la bibliothèque a entrepris une recherche pour produire un
catalogue de toutes les sources musicales conservées dan les archives
publiques, privés et d'église du Molise. La première phase (une
recherche systhématique comprenante un questionnaire) est deja terminée.
Les derniers buts sont: un catalogue géneral en base de données,
préparé utilisant le logiciel SBL et accessible aussi parmi le réseau
des bibliothèques italiennes SBN et à travers Internet; la communication
des découvertes aux institutions nationales et internationales; la
creation d'un CD-ROM avec la musique écrite par les musiciens du Molise.
