Progress and perspectives of the International Standard Music Number
The paper briefly describes the history and contents of the standard (ISO 10957) and focuses on the activities of the International ISMN Agency. The current state of ISMN implementation is given, with reference to the first experiences in the practical application of the standard. Two important steps in the dissemination of the ISMN system will be a Music in Print on CD-ROM (published by the Buchhändler-Vereinigung in Frankfurt) as the basis for a comprehensive ordering and distribution system, and the first International Music Publishers Directory (published by the International ISMN Agency).

Le rapport décrit brièvement l'histoire et le sommaire du standard (ISO 10957), et se concentre sur les activités de l'Agence Internationale ISMN. L'état actuel de l'implémentation de l'ISMN y est présenté, en faisant référence aux premières expériences de l'application pratique du standard. Deux étapes importantes dans la dissémination du système ISMN seront Music in Print sur CD-ROM (publié par la Buchhändler-Vereinigung de Frankfort) comme base d'un système complet de commande et de distribution, et le premier International Music Publishers Directory (publié par l'Agence Internationale ISMN).
